Personal profile

I embarked on my academic journey at the University of Calcutta, India, where I completed my B.S. in Chemistry (Major), Physics, and Mathematics in 1992, ranking first in my class. I continued my studies at the same university, earning my M.S. in Biophysics, Molecular Biology, and Genetics in 1994. I then pursued a Post-M.S. Associateship in Biosciences at the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Calcutta, India, from 1994 to 1995. My thirst for knowledge led me to a Ph.D. in Biophysical Chemistry at the Biophysics Division, SINP (University of Calcutta), India, from 1995 to 2001. My thesis was entitled “Spectroscopic Investigations on some biologically important molecules in different environments”.

After completing my Ph.D., I served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Biophysics Division, SINP, India, from March 2002 to March 2004. I then moved to Sweden to work as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Applied Physics at Chalmers University of Technology, Goteborg, from July 2004 to June 2006. In September 2006, I relocated to the United States to serve as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Chemistry at Furman University until December 2010.

In January 2011, I began my tenure as an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in the Chemistry department at Tougaloo College, where I served until April 2016. I was then promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in Chemistry at the same institution, a position I held until August 2019.

In September 2019, I joined Stephen F. Austin State University as an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in the Chemistry and Biochemistry department. In September 2022, I was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure.

Throughout my academic career, I have published numerous research papers in esteemed journals, attended several conferences for invited lectures and oral presentations, and received various honors, research funding, awards, and achievements. I am also a peer reviewer for several international journals. My teaching experience spans various courses in Chemistry and Biochemistry, and I have supervised undergraduate and M.S. students in their research work. I am a Certified Online Instructor and a Certified Interactive Video Instructor at Stephen F. Austin State University. I also hold an Online Teaching Certification in Web 2.0 Tools and High-Touch Technology Integration.
