My journey in the field of chemistry began at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFASU), where I earned my B.S. in Chemistry in 1995. I then pursued my Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Arkansas, completing it in 2001. My thesis, titled “Development and Application of Dynamically Modified Optical Fiber Probes for pH and Antibody Sensing,” resulted in two published papers.
I started my academic career as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant at SFASU, assisting with various chemistry laboratories. I then served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Arkansas, teaching several chemistry laboratories. My first faculty position was as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Mississippi State University, where I taught Instrumental Analysis and a non-science major chemistry course.
In 2002, I joined Northwestern State University as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry, where I taught a variety of courses and mentored 12 undergraduates through various student-centered academic projects. Afterward, I moved to the Louisiana School for Math, Arts, and the Sciences as an Instructor of Chemistry, teaching college-level courses and labs.
Since 2011, I have been with Stephen F. Austin State University, first as an Assistant Professor and then as an Associate Professor of Chemistry. Throughout my career, I have been involved in several student-centered academic projects and have implemented various teaching innovations, such as online delivery of courses and Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning activities. My research has resulted in several referred publications, contributing to the field of chemistry.
