Jose Carbajal

Jose Carbajal, PhD, LCSW, is an Associate Professor of Social Work at Stephen F. Austin State University. He teaches across the MSW and DSW curriculum, with an emphasis on research, policy, advanced generalist practice, and community/organizational practice. As part of his teaching, students have participated in conferences presenting their papers and published peer-reviewed studies. In addition to 15 years of clinical experience and EMDR therapy training, he has published several studies and conducted many professional presentations. His research focus is on the effects of psychological trauma and interventions clinicians use to treat trauma, neuroscience and social work practice, faith and trauma, first responders, ethics, women in leadership, social disparity, and the distribution of wealth. He was awarded a $200,000 HRSA grant to assess the opioid crisis in East Texas in partnership with the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) of Deep East Texas. Dr. Carbajal was appointed to the ASWB/CSWE Licensing and Regulation National Taskforce and collaborated to develop the Social Work Competency to intervene with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, which was published in 2018. He is currently serving a three-year term on the Social Work editorial board and on the Journal of Social Work Scholar-Practitioner editorial board.
