Research interests

Lisa M. Bentley is a Lecturer in the Department of History at Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas, USA, where she teaches surveys in American history, research and writing for historians, and courses on teaching history and social students at the secondary level. Additionally, Dr. Bentley serves as the Educational Coordinator for the Department of History, where she works with teacher candidates to develop pedagogical practices for history innovative classrooms.

Her research and teaching range broadly across topics in historical memory and public history, with a particular focus on moonshining in America as a subculture of the poor Southern population, specifically in East Texas. Additionally, she focuses much of her time studying methodology used to drive decisions that impact academic programs in the university system. Her doctoral study analyzed influences related to academic and professional development of forestry education. The focus of her study highlighted revision of Society of American Forestry curriculum and identified selected key themes, patterns, and insights for each of the curriculum standards for forestry education as defined by SAF. This research approach is applicable in several areas of social science studies.
