Abstract

African American students seeking a higher education at a predominantly white institution (PWI) can face certain challenges. Often overlooked, these students’ unfortunate experiences will cause them to seek different avenues to continue pursuing their education, thus leaving a predominantly white institution. The question is how can African American students successfully attend a predominantly white institution? How can the retention and success rates increase amongst African American students while attending a predominantly white institution? Presenters will describe different strategies of how African American students can be supported while attending predominantly white institutions,
