Personal profile
I-Kuai Hung, currently the Robert E. Minto Distinguished Professor specializing in GIS and Remote Sensing, has a rich academic and professional background. He earned his Ph.D. in GIS and Outdoor Recreation from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2002, following his M.S. and B.S. in Forestry from National Taiwan University in 1986 and 1982, respectively.
His professional journey began at National Taiwan University, where he served in various roles, including Forestry Specialist and Field Station Instructor, from 1986 to 2000. He then moved to the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture at Stephen F. Austin State University, where he has held several positions since 2000, including his current role as the Robert E. Minto Distinguished Professor.
Hung’s research has been widely published, with numerous refereed publications in the last five years. His work spans a range of topics, from assessing the impacts of climate change on at-risk species to the accuracy assessment of measuring linear and areal features in aerial imagery.
In addition to his academic responsibilities, Hung is actively involved in professional organizations and has received several honors, including the Carl Alwin Schenck Teaching Award from the Society of American Foresters in 2021. He has also secured external grants for research funding, further demonstrating his commitment to advancing the field of GIS and Remote Sensing.
