Resumen

The study compared four methodologies to develop a new growth model for projecting future trees per acre by diameter class in unmanaged loblolly pine and slash pine plantations in East Texas. The new models were created based on extensive data from permanent plots in these plantations. For validation, additional data from other permanent plots were used to compare the four methodologies. The outcomes indicated one new model as superior, as judged by error indexes for trees per acre and basal area per acre across various projection lengths. The study recommends the adoption of this new model by forest managers for better projection in East Texas loblolly and slash pine plantations, with an example provided to guide users on utilizing the new model.
